November 4: A celebration of Military

On 4 November celebrates Armed Forces Day, this date is significant for our nation, indeed the armistice was signed on 11.4.1918 with the Austro-Hungarian forces that marked the end of World War I for Italy.
Thanks to the sacrifice of millions of Italian national unity was accomplished at last.
diciso why I enter in this post the video and text of The Legend of the Piave, hoping to erase from the collective memory of this wonderful song 900.

One of the most famous and beautiful songs from this era is definitely "The Legend of the Piave," which is a passionate evocation of four dramatic moments of the war presented by each verse of the song: the march of soldiers to the front, the retreat of Kobarid, the defense of the opposite shores of the Piave and the victorious final offensive.
It 's definitely one where even the concepts of homeland triumph, Hero, Enemy, and have no place the daily events of the war made of hardship and suffering. The

THE LEGEND OF PIAVE
EA Mario

The Piave (1) murmured
calm and placid to the passage of the first infantry
May 24: (2)
the army marched to reach

the border and let the enemy (3) a barrier ....
crossed silently that night and infantry
be silent and get going! We heard from popular shores
Meanwhile, the exultation
light and low (4) of the waves
was an omen (5) sweet and flattering (6)
The Piave whispered:
"foreigner shall not pass!"

But a sad night (7)
there was talk of a gloomy event (8) and the Piave
heard the anger and dismay (9)
Ah how many people saw it coming down

leaving their homes and that the enemy won at Kobarid (12)
Refugees everywhere! From the distant mountains
came to crowd all the bridges (13)
We heard from the broken (14) shores
light and sad the murmur of the waves like a sob
in that black
The Piave whispered:
the foreigner returns! "

And the enemy returned to the pride and hunger: (15)
wished to wreak his cravings (16) saw the plan
fertile plains (17) are above

still wanted to eat and rejoicing (18) as
then "No" said the Piave "No" said the infantrymen
"The enemy will never take a step forward!"
We saw the Piave raising!
the infantry battled the waves
red blood of the haughty enemy (19) The Piave
commanded
"Go back stranger!"

The enemy went back to Trieste, to Trento
and the victory spread her wings
was sacred ancient pact: (20)
they were seen among the ranks
rise Oberdan, Sauro, Baptists (21)
The bloody disgrace and at last broke the old error
Italic value (22) Secure the Alps
free
the banks of the Piave and was silent: the waves are placaron
on native soil, defeated the grim empires (23)
peace did not find any oppressed neither any foreigner
